Installing the SMS Application
  • To install the application you need to download Message Companion 2010. When asked whether you'd like to "Run or Save the file" select Run, and follow the prompts to complete installation.
  • Please note, the installation process downloads required components as needed, and therefore installation and download times vary depending on your internet line speed.
First Time Use
The application adds itself to your start menu under the heading "Message Companion 2010". When the application is run it will first check if there are any updates available. If an update is found it will automatically download and install it. If NO update is found click on "Continue".

When logging in for the first time you need to be online so we can verify your login details. If you are online and we cannot access the SMS Gateway a settings screen will appear. This will allow you to add settings if you are behind a proxy server or firewall.
Windows 7 Users - Compatibility Issues
For all Windows 7 users having issues with running the application. Please use the following instructions to allow Message Companion to run on your Operating System

1. Right Click on the Message Companion 2010 icon on your desktop
2. Select Properties
3. Select the Compatibility tab
4. Check the 'Run this program as an Administrator' check box
5. Press Ok.
6. Go to the following directory 'C:\Program Files\Message Companion 2010'
7. Right Click on the file named 'MessageCompanion'
8. Select Properties
9. Select the Compatibility tab
10. Check the 'Run this program as an Administrator' check box
11. Run Message Companion as normal via the shortcut on your desktop or in Start>Programs
Windows Vista Users - Compatibility Issues
For all Windows Vista users having issues with running the application. Please use the following instructions to allow Message Companion to run on your Operating System

1. Go to the following directory 'C:\Program Files\Message Companion 2010'
2. Right Click on the file named 'MessageCompanion'
3. Select Properties
4. Select the Compatibility tab
5. Check the 'Run this program as an Administrator' check box
6. Press Ok.
7. Right Click on the file named 'SMS_App_Updater'
8. Select Properties
9. Select the Compatibility tab
10. Check the 'Run this program as an Administrator' check box
11. Press Ok.
12. Run Message Companion as normal via the shortcut on your desktop or in Start>Programs
Export Groups and Numbers from old version to the new version
Groups and numbers can be exported from the old version to the new version of Message Companion using the following steps.

1. Open the old version of Message Companion.
2. Click on the group you wish to export using the left hand side menu.
3. Select all the numbers that appear in the group using the Select All button.
4. In the tool bar press ‘Export’, and save the file. This will export data in CSV format
5. Create an export file (.csv) for each group you have by repeating steps 1 to 3.

Open the new version of Message Companion (close if already open and wait for the update to download automatically),

1. Create a new group or as many groups as you need to accommodate the numbers you will be importing, i.e one group per CSV file that was previously created.
2. Select the import button located in the top menu bar. This will start the import process.
3. Select the “Import From CSV” option and press Next.
4. Select the file to import
5. Select which group to import the CSV file data into using the drop down on the bottom right side
6. Finally press the Import button
